Cold Weather Reminders
As the weather begins to get colder, please send your student to school with a coat, hat, gloves, etc. If there is snow, students should also have snow gear such as boots and snow pants to enjoy the snow during recess. We will go outside unless the Real Feel temperature is below 20 degrees.
We do not have adult supervision before 8:00AM, please know that if you drop your child off before 8:00AM he/she will wait outside.
Lost and Found Last Call for the Winter
If your student is missing anything please have them check out our lost and found. We will be donating any items left over in the lost and found in January. We will start up a new collection after winter break.
Car Line/Parking Lot Arrival and Dismissal
Also, a reminder that less families are walking to school now that the weather is colder which means we have more students being dropped off in the morning. Please give yourself enough to ensure students are dropped off and can make it to their seats ready to learn by 8:20AM.
If there are any cold weather advisories, we will use our indoor dismissal plan. Please see the document below for our plans for dismissal. We will try to let families know through a text message if we move to an indoor dismissal. This only applies to our car riders and walkers. Our bus riders are always stay inside until the busses arrive.
Stay in your car when in the car line. DO NOT get out unless you are in a parking spot. The car line always moves faster when everyone stays in their cars. When in the car line, please be patient. The weather makes things more hectic, so allow yourself time to get in and out safely.

December's Key-This Is It!
THIS IS IT! – Make the most of every moment
Focus your attention on the present moment. Keep a positive attitude. This Is It! is about focusing on NOW instead of later, or next week, or next month, or next year, or yesterday, etc., and making the most of it. A positive This Is It! attitude can make everything we do and every day productive, fulfilling, and fun!
Life is full of distractions and opportunities to do something else, something other than what we’re doing now. Many of us spend a lot of time thinking about those other things. Instead of making what we’re doing now “it” our focus is often elsewhere—on things we wanted to do, could have done, should have done, or want to do “sometime.” Whenever our thoughts are occupied with something other than what we’re doing, we miss what’s going on around us in the moment ... while we’re waiting for the next moment to arrive the present moment slips away. When we live in the NOW we have power! With a This Is It! attitude we make the present “it” and find joyful moments that we might otherwise have missed!
2026-27 School Year-Kindergarten
If you have an incoming kindergartener-or know someone who does, please take a moment to complete the Kindergarten Information Form as soon as possible. This form helps us prepare class lists, plan for staffing, and ensure a smooth and success start to the school year for all of our new Glen Hill students.

Coming Soon: “Ask Us Anything”- Supporting Your Child at Home
We know that parenting comes with plenty of questions, especially when it comes to helping your child build independence, follow directions, manage emotions, or get along with siblings. To better support our families, we are launching an “Ask Us Anything” Google Form where you can submit questions about everyday challenges at home.
No question is too small or too specific—whether it’s homework routines, morning struggles, screen time, or big feelings. Our team will review your questions and share helpful strategies, tips, and resources in each upcoming newsletter.
We hope this becomes a meaningful way for us to partner with you and provide support that truly meets your family’s needs. Look for the Google Form link below!

Here are some engaging, winter-themed math activities
1. Winter Pattern Hunt
Encourage kids to create or identify patterns using holiday decorations like ornaments, wrapping paper, or lights. For example:
-
Alternate red and green ornaments in a sequence.
-
Explore symmetry in snowflakes or folded paper decorations.
2. Baking Math
Turn baking into a math lesson! Students can:
-
Measure ingredients to practice fractions and conversions.
-
Double or halve a recipe to work on multiplication and division.
-
Calculate baking times for multiple trays.
3. Snowflake Symmetry Challenge
Provide paper and scissors for kids to cut their own snowflakes, focusing on symmetry. Ask them to predict and then check how many lines of symmetry their designs have.
4. Gift-Wrapping Geometry
Ask students to calculate the area of wrapping paper needed for various gift box shapes. For older students, introduce the concept of surface area and challenge them with irregularly shaped gifts.
5. Counting Down with a Math Advent Calendar
Create an advent calendar with daily math puzzles or riddles leading up to a holiday. Each day could feature a math fact, problem, or activity to solve.
6. Estimate the Jar
Fill a clear jar with small holiday items (candy canes, jingle bells, gumdrops). Have students estimate the number inside and explain their reasoning. Use this to introduce concepts of estimation and volume.
7. Winter Break Math Journal
Encourage students to keep a math journal over the break. Each day, they can write about a real-world math connection, like budgeting for gifts, calculating travel distances, or counting steps during a holiday walk.
8. Build a Snowman with Math
If it’s snowy, encourage kids to measure the height and diameter of their snowman and calculate its volume or circumference. For non-snowy areas, use paper or felt snowmen and add math challenges like measuring angles or comparing sizes.
Toys and Stuffed Animals
We are noticing more students bringing in toys to school with them (Pokemon cards, Labubus, fidgets). Please remind your students to keep items like these at home. They can be a disruption during the school day and we cannot guarantee they would be safe at school.
