Toys and Stuffed Animals
We are noticing more students bringing in toys to school with them (Pokemon cards, Labubus, fidgets). Please remind your students to keep items like these at home. They can be a disruption during the school day and we cannot guarantee they would be safe at school.
Colder Weather is Coming
As the weather begins to get colder, please send your student to school with a coat, hat, gloves, etc. If there is snow, students should also have snow gear such as boots and snow pants to enjoy the snow during recess. We will go outside unless the Real Feel temperature is below 19 degrees.
Missing things? Have students check out the Lost & Found
Smile Squad
It is that time of year again--the Dupage County Smile Squad Dental Van is coming to our school! The dentist will be here November 10 and 12 to service your student's smile.
While all students are encouraged to sign up, this dental exam will meet the state mandated requirement for Kindergarten and 2nd grade. If the child meets the necessary requirements, they will receive a dental cleaning, fluoride treatment, and sealants. After they are seen, a letter will be sent home with the exam results and what services were done. BONUS: EVERY CHILD WILL RECEIVE A FREE TOOTHBRUSH!
If you are interested in having your student be seen by the dentist FOR FREE, please complete the consent form that will be sent home by your teacher and turn it in as soon as possible. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me via email at jpalmisano@queenbee16.org or telephone at 630-260-6142.
What is "Roasting"?
There has been an increase in "roasting" among some of our older students. Roasting is when someone makes fun of another person in a joking way — often by pointing out their mistakes, habits, or appearance to get laughs from others. It’s common among older kids or adults in social situations (like “comedy roasts”) where everyone agrees it’s meant to be playful and not hurtful.
However, roasting is not a good idea for younger students for several reasons:
-
They may not understand boundaries.
Young children are still learning what’s appropriate to say and how words can affect others. They might take “roasting” too far and say things that are mean or personal. -
Feelings can get hurt easily.
Even if someone says “just joking,” younger kids may feel embarrassed, insulted, or left out. They often don’t yet have the emotional maturity to separate humor from unkindness. -
It can lead to being mean
What starts as a “joke” can quickly turn into teasing or ridicule, especially if the same student is targeted repeatedly. -
It sets a negative tone for classroom relationships.
Roasting can make the classroom feel unsafe or disrespectful, discouraging students from participating or trusting their peers.
In short, while older students or adults might see roasting as fun, younger students often don’t have the social awareness or emotional resilience for it — so it’s better to encourage your student to focus on kind, respectful humor instead
November's Key-Speaking with Good Purpose
This month, our students are focusing on Speaking with Good Purpose, one of the 8 Keys of Success. This means thinking before we speak and using our words in a positive, honest, and meaningful way. When we “speak with good purpose,” we avoid gossip or hurtful comments and instead choose words that are kind, helpful, and true. Families can encourage this at home by reminding children to pause and ask, “Is what I’m about to say helpful or necessary?”
