Fall Benchmarking
Three times a year, all of our students participate in our benchmark assessments. These assessments help our teachers to plan for the students, as well as help us to know where our students are excelling or needing some more instruction in the areas of math and reading. For our Fall Benchmarking, all students in grades 1-4 will take the NWEA assessment as well as the AIMsWeb assessments. Your student’s teacher will share the results of this assessment with you at parent teacher conferences. We will hold these benchmarking assessments again in the winter and spring.
Birthdays
Please do not send in food items or balloons to celebrate. These items will be returned home. If you would like to send in a celebration item to share with the class, novelty items such as pencils, bubbles, Play-Doh, and stickers are acceptable. This is optional for all students.
Coming Into the Building?
Reminder-any time you are coming into the building, please be prepared to present identification, such as a Driver’s License or state ID. This is especially important when you are picking your student up from school early. At times, there may be other people coming to pick up your student from school. Please inform them of our policy. If we see that the person is not on your student’s pick up list, we will ask for ID, as well as make sure the person is someone who is allowed to pick up your student. It is important that we maintain systems for students coming in and out of the building throughout the school day.
SEL SPOT
Referral GPS
We would like to inform you about the following important resource we have to share with the district community.
ReferralGPS is a web-based service focused on assisting our students, staff, and community in finding local mental-health treatment. In addition to a searchable database of treatment options, ReferralGPS provides Care Navigation to assist families in appointment setting and follow up care. School families may access ReferralGPS in two ways:
1) Contact the School Social Worker to seek out treatment referral options.
2) Visit this link at https://referralgps.com/find-help/queenbee16 to search for treatment resources or connect with a Care Navigator anonymously.
ReferralGPS takes into account all types of private and public insurance including PPO, HMO, Medicaid, Medicare, and families who are uninsured or underinsured. The platform also filters by age, gender, zip code, and special requests. ReferralGPS is available for use by district students, staff, and families at no cost. All information entered on the ReferralGPS tool is completely confidential and securely stored.
If you are interested in seeking counseling-related services at this time, please consider visiting https://referralgps.com/find-help/queenbee16

Changes in Your Student's Dismissal Plans?
While it is always helpful to inform your student's teacher, we ask that familes also always contact the office. There is so much happening during the school day and we want to be able to help teachers out by making sure we are aware of these changes. You can contact the office at any time, but it can be busy at arrival and dismissal times. Also, please try to give us at least 15 minutes if you would like to pick up your child early. This way, we have enough time to have them ready and waiting in the office for you.
School Wide Drills
The first priority in District 16 is the safety of our students. Each year we practice fire, shelter-in-place, lockdown, bus, and evacuation drills in all of our schools, as required by the law. Although we hope that we never have to implement any of our emergency plans, we realize how important it is to have our students and staff prepared. The drills will take place throughout the school year.
