October's Key-Failure Leads to Success
View failures as feedback that provides you with the information you need to learn, grow, and succeed. When we live the Key of Failure Leads to Success we see failures as feedback, we learn from them and make the changes needed to be more successful in the future.
To live this Key successfully we may need to change the way we think about failure. Rather than viewing failure in a negative way where we put ourselves down and think WE are a failure, think of failure as a valuable learning experience. When we look at our mistakes with a view to learning from them, rather than sending ourselves negative messages, we are on the path to success.

Glen Hill Home Support for Math
Fall Benchmarking
Three times a year, all of our students participate in our benchmark assessments. These assessments help our teachers to plan for the students, as well as help us to know where our students are excelling or needing some more instruction in the areas of math and reading. For our Fall Benchmarking, all students in grades 1-4 will take the NWEA assessment as well as the AIMsWeb assessments. Kindergarten students take the AIMsWeb assessments only in the fall. Your student’s teacher will share the results of this assessment with you at parent teacher conferences. We will hold these benchmarking assessments again in the winter and spring.
District Required Drills
The first priority in District 16 is the safety of our students. Each year we practice fire, shelter-in-place, lockdown, bus, and evacuation drills in all of our schools, as required by the law. Although we hope that we never have to implement any of our emergency plans, we realize how important it is to have our students and staff prepared. The drills will take place throughout the school year.
Phone & Smart Watches
We are asking for your assistance regarding the cell phone policy at school. As a reminder, phones can be brought to school, but they must be turned off and kept in students’ lockers. Students should not be bringing them into the classroom or using phones during the school day.
Smartwatches can be worn during the day but should not be used to contact families while at school.
Coming into the Building?
Reminder-any time you are coming into the building, please be prepared to present identification, such as a Driver’s License or state ID. This is especially important when you are picking your student up from school early. At times, there may be other people coming to pick up your student from school. Please inform them of our policy. If we see that the person is not on your student’s pick up list, we will ask for ID, as well as make sure the person is someone who is allowed to pick up your student. It is important that we maintain systems for students coming in and out of the building throughout the school day.
